5 - 15 min ink sketches

These are quick ink sketches made during my travels with the Urban Sketchers (USK). Each drawing takes around 5–15 minutes, made directly on location and from observation. 

This particular series was drawn during a USK meeting in Stuttgart. Here I work with very few tools:  black, yellow and orange ink applied with a water brush. The limited materials and short drawing time are part of the process. Rather than trying to produce a polished or finished image, I want to capture a moment, a place, a movement, a fragment of architecture, or simply the atmosphere of being there. My approach follows the USK Manifesto: we draw on location, indoors or outdoors, recording what we see through direct observation. Our drawings tell the story of the places where we live and travel, creating a visual record of a particular time and place. For me, these sketches are also a way of slowing down while travelling. A few minutes of drawing is enough to really look at a street, a building, the people around me, or the changing light. The imperfections, loose lines and traces of the process are part of the record. One place. One moment. A few minutes of drawing.
